Kaal Sarp Dosh Puja

Kaal Sarp Dosh Puja is a Hindu ritual performed to alleviate the malefic effects of the Kaal Sarp Dosh, which is a planetary alignment in Vedic astrology. It is believed that when all seven planets, namely Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn, are situated between Rahu (the ascending node of the Moon) and Ketu (the descending node of the Moon) in one’s birth chart, it forms the Kaal Sarp Dosh. This dosha is considered to bring various challenges and obstacles into one’s life and is believed to have a significant impact on an individual’s overall well-being.

Kaal Sarp Dosh Puja is a Hindu ritual performed to seek blessings and alleviate the malefic effects of Kaal Sarp Dosh, a planetary alignment that is believed to have negative impacts on a person’s life. In Vedic astrology, Kaal Sarp Dosh occurs when all the seven planets (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn) are hemmed between the two lunar nodes, Rahu and Ketu. It is considered an inauspicious yoga that can cause various challenges and obstacles in life.

Procedure of Kaal Sarp Dosh Puja:

  1. Select a Auspicious Date: Consult with a knowledgeable astrologer to determine an auspicious date and time for the puja.
  2. Prepare for the Puja: Cleanse your body by taking a bath and wear clean, traditional attire.
  3. Ganesh Puja: Begin the ceremony with a prayer to Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, to seek his blessings and ensure the success of the puja.
  4. Kalash Sthapana: Place a consecrated pot (Kalash) filled with water, flowers, and a coconut, along with a red or white thread (moli) tied around its neck. This symbolizes the divine presence.
  5. Rahu and Ketu Worship: Offer prayers to Rahu and Ketu, the lunar nodes, by lighting incense, lamps, and making offerings of fruits, betel leaves, and coins. Recite mantras dedicated to them.
  6. Sarpa Sutra Puja: A consecrated thread known as Sarpa Sutra is tied around the wrist of the individual who is undergoing the puja to protect them from the malefic influence of Kaal Sarp Dosh.
  7. Recite Mantras: The main part of the puja involves reciting specific mantras and hymns that are chanted to invoke divine blessings and to neutralize the effects of Kaal Sarp Dosh.
  8. Abhishekam: Perform an Abhishekam, which is the ritualistic bathing of idols or symbols of deities with milk, yogurt, honey, ghee, and water.
  9. Offerings: Make offerings of flowers, fruits, sweets, and coins to appease the deities and seek their blessings.
  10. Aarti: Conclude the puja by performing an aarti, circling a lit lamp in front of the deities and singing devotional songs.
